Well known dishes on the menus include moussaka, stifado, kebab and Greek salad. To get a good and nutritious (as well as filling !) taste of true Greek Cypriot food nothing can better a MEZE (an example pictured here). It is a series of small different dishes provided over the course of your meal and may cover absolutely everything or pursue a meat or fish theme. A meze in some restuarants can consist of upto 30 dishes so - PACE YOURSELF !Kebab (souvlaki) and lamb (in the form of lamb chops or the traditional Kleftiko) appear on most menus. Cypriots also have a taste for smoked meats - with a favourite being loukanika - a smoked sausage.Fish is also very popular and is a staple of menus in all restaurants. Look out for sea bass, swordfish, kalamari (battered), whitebait and red mullet. Some restaurants will also serve trout.A great, and highly recommended snack or lunch is a halloumi cheese (the most popular dairy product - made from goats milk - in Cyprus) and tomato grilled in pitta bread.OUR RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONFor a traditional Greek Cypriot menu - try MILITZIS, 42 Piale Pasche, Larnaca
DRINKWith the high humidilty and temperature in Cyprus water is an essential and can be purchased at all food and convenience store outlets. All major drinks - from fizzy drinks to beers, wines and spirits are widely available.OUR DRINK RECOMMENDATIONKeo - a refreshingly tasty lager brewed and produced in Cyprus !
