CYPRUS - The Country
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and stretches 150 miles (240 km) from the west coast to its easternmost tip and 60 miles (96 km) from north to south.
Towns in Cyprus which are great to visit include Nicosia, the capital situated inland and the coastal towns of Limassol, Larnaca(where you will find my apartment), Paphos, Ayia Napa and Protoras. For those looking for more adventures trips Lefkara and Troodos mountains offer traditional charm.
Larnaca - The Ideal base for your Cyprus stay !
Larnaca offers you, the visitor the best of both the old and new Cyprus.
The historical Lazarus church (pictured) was originally built in the 9th century and restored in the 17th century. Its external and internal splendor can be enjoyed to this day (look out for the Saturday afternoon weddings !). In addition to Lazarus church look out for the Cyprus Old Fort at the end of the promenade at Finicoudes and looking out to sea.
New Cyprus is ably represented by the town centre where everything from world renowned retail outlets such as Marks and Spencer (pictured)
, Next and Toni and Guy compete for your custom with local traders selling typical and traditional Cypriot fare for example Leather and Lace.
At the local Marina you can take a boat trip out to sea - great value for money. A wonderful experience and a great way to explore the coast line of the island.
Food and drink caters for all tastes in Cyprus. The many restaurants along Finicoudes and on the old road towards Makenzy Beach (near the fort) see traditional Cypriot dining alongside holiday favourite, fine dining alongside convenience food. Something for EVERYONE !
BEACHES IN CYPRUS
Cyprus has some 39 areas of beach and coastline which you can visit. In Larnaca, the 2 main beach areas are Finikoudes and Makenzy Beach.
Finikoudes is the most popular beach area in Larnaca, mainly due to its vicinity to the town centre and its easy transport connections. Within a 20-25 minute walk from the apartment or a 5 minute car or taxi ride - its is the closest beach to the apartment. With its long strecth of sand leading upto and past the Old Fort and never ending sea views it is the centre piece of Larnaca. Nearby Makenzy Beach (approx 15 minutes car ride) is seen at times as the forgotten beach in Larnaca. However with its golden sand, clear blue waters and watersports of all varieties coupled with its restaurants and bars it is a must for any stay in Larnaca.
Travelling the island for beaches we can highly recommend - Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa and Fig Tree Bay in Protaras.
Cyprus prides itself on its tourism and the beaches are amongst the cleanest and safest you will find anywhere in the world.
